The acquisition comes as the AI developer expands its involvement in drug discovery, including partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies using its Claude models. Anthropic said it is working with Bristol Myers Squibb, BigHat Biosciences and four other partners on tasks ranging from antibody design to clinical trial planning. According to the company, Tranbarger used its Claude models to coordinate research involving 11 external laboratories. Anthropic said a drug based on his research could be ready to enter human clinical trials as early as late 2028. In a filing on Monday for an initial public offering, Anthropic identified AI’s potential to discover new cures for diseases as the first among several applications with the greatest potential benefit to humanity.
