Replit Ends Anthropic Partnership Over Cost and OpenAI Shift

Replit CEO Amjad Masad has officially closed the chapter on the company's relationship with Anthropic. In recent public comments, Masad confirmed that Replit is no longer working with Anthropic, pointing to cost as a primary factor alongside other operational and strategic reasons for the split. For years, Anthropic's Claude models were a favorite among Replit users, widely praised for coding accuracy, reasoning, and careful handling of complex software tasks. Their removal marks a major shift for a platform that built much of its early AI-coding reputation on top of Claude. While Masad did not detail every reason behind the decision, his emphasis on cost echoes a growing reality for AI-powered development platforms: frontier models are expensive to run at scale, and platforms serving millions of builders need better economics.
