The Department of Health and Human Services plans to extend its access to Anthropic’s Claude artificial intelligence tools through a sole-source contract while preparing a competitive procurement for enterprise AI services. According to a special notice published Monday on SAM.gov, HHS intends to award Anthropic a limited continuity-of-services contract to maintain existing Claude for Enterprise and Claude for Government services for authorized department personnel until the agency awards a multiple-award blanket purchase agreement. HHS’ planned AI procurement highlights the need to balance access to advanced tools with federal security and data-handling requirements. At the Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 Healthcare Summit on Dec. 3, HHS executive Gil Alterovitz will join a panel discussion on balancing healthcare costs, quality and access.
