Anthropic launches Claude Opus 5.5 with lower API costs

Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 5.5, the first model in its Claude 5.5 family. It is available now across Anthropic’s platforms, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure under the model identifier claude-opus-5-5. The release follows Anthropic’s call to pace frontier AI development, with Frontier Design and METR among the external evaluators. Anthropic says Opus 5.5 performs at Claude Fable 5.1’s level on most work while costing 40% less to run than Opus 5 on typical workloads. API pricing is $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, compared with $5 and $25 for Opus 5.
