Anthropic has released Claude Sonnet 5.5, promising faster performance and lower operating costs as competition between leading artificial intelligence developers intensifies. The AI company introduced the model on September 28 as the latest version of its mid-range Sonnet family, positioning it for everyday professional work such as coding, fixing software bugs, and producing documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. Anthropic said Sonnet 5.5 generates output more than 30% faster than its predecessor, Sonnet 5. It also said the model can cost up to 30% less per task because it typically requires fewer tokens to complete the same work.
