Claude Mythos 5 cuts gates 17x in elliptic-curve quantum circuit; qubits up 12%. Anthropic’s Claude Mythos 5 AI model designed a quantum circuit for elliptic-curve point addition that requires 17 times fewer gates than the most compact previously published design. It uses 12% more qubits. The work was led by Anthropic STEM Fellow Andi Gu together with researchers from Harvard University and QuEra Computing. In total, the model refined eight basic quantum operations used in chemistry, optimization, simulation of physical systems, number theory, and numerical computing. Researchers provided Claude with natural-language task descriptions and connected an automated evaluation system. The model proposed circuit variants, the evaluator checked their correctness and assigned a score. Using this feedback, Claude improved the next version without human intervention between rounds.
