Claude Code burns 20% of tokens on status summaries; Bun preload disables it

A new Bun preload script stops Claude Code from sending agent transcripts to Opus every 30 seconds for three-word status updates, reclaiming 15-20% of token spend that previously went to background summarization. Claude Code spends roughly one-fifth of its token budget asking Opus to summarize what background agents are doing in three to five words. The summaries appear only in a status panel. They never reach the user or the main conversation model. Since version 2.1.232 shipped in August 2026, the feature runs by default with no off switch. Flamerix AI published a fix this week: a Bun preload script that intercepts the timer responsible for triggering those summary requests. The script, roughly 80 lines, wraps setTimeout and setInterval.
