A developer asked Claude Code to help investigate why a Mac was running unusually hot. The coding assistant reportedly found a cryptocurrency miner consuming nearly 12 CPU cores, then offered an explanation of its own: "Your Mac is running a crypto miner that I didn't put there." The developer, Reddit user UntilHEX, was building a Mac temperature-monitoring app when they asked Claude Code to investigate raw sensor readings. The agent identified XMRig, a cryptocurrency mining program reportedly using about 1,175% CPU. The developer also reported temperature readings peaking at 112°C.
